Chapter 4 An ICM Explanation on the Generation Mechanism of Different Types of PP in PSAs 

Based  on  the  close  relationship  between  ICM  and  PP  in  PSAs,  we have divided PP into three subtypes: propositional PP, metaphoric PP and metonymic  PP.  Since  proposition,  metaphor  and  metonymy  are  the  most common thinking mechanism of human beings, designers and readers can design and understand PSAs quite well if they know how different types of PP are generated. By thorough analysis of the generation mechanism of the  three  different  types  of  PP  in  PSAs  in  accordance  with  the  theory  of ICM can not only make readers well understand the real purposes of the advertising  designers  but  also  fulfill  the  obligation  of  what  the  Chinese PSAs  plan  to  tell  us.  Therefore,  we  are  going  to  illustrate  the  generation mechanism  of  the  three  kinds  of  PPs  with  detailed  examples  from Chinese PSAs under the instruction of ICM step by step in this chapter.
