2.2 Translation Process

The translation practice started in early June 2022.During the translation,longand complex sentences with research value were selected and stored separately in another document,and the first draft of the translation was completed on July 31st.“Translation is the process of solving problems,including understanding,expression,and adaptation”(Li,2021,p.75).Therefore,the understanding of the source text andthe expression of target text are two key points.“In the book Popular Science andScience Fiction Translation:Theory,Skills and Practice,the author holds thattranslation of popular science should be accurate,loyal to the original intention,andsmooth both in reading and writing”(Guo,2004,pp.31-34).

First of all,in terms of understanding of the original text,the writer analyzedlong sentences in three steps:Finding main components of the sentence,such assubject,predicate,object,etc.And then the translator analyzed the additionalcomponents other than the main part,so as to grasp relation between each layer ofinformation.Finally,having fully analyzed grammatical relations within sentence,thewriter chose appropriate word meanings according to specific contexts.Therefore,thefocus should not only be put on the analysis of sentence structure,but logicalrelationship between sentences and paragraphs,so as to faithfully convey theinformation of original text.
