摘要:The main purpose of the research is to testify whether CAT-based approach is moreeffective in improving students’ translation competence. According to the researchobjective, the author has proposed two hypotheses which have been testified throughteaching experiment, translation tests, questionnaires and interview. After that, all therequired statistics are collected and analyzed by SPSS version 16.0. In this chapter, theauthor will come to a conclusion of the whole thesis. Firstly, the major findings aresummarized. Then pedagogical implications of this study are showed clearly. Lastly, thelimitations of this research are indicated and the suggestions for further studies are putforward.

1.3 Research Significance
As a tool of international communication, translation plays an important role inpromoting the communication with other countries. Hence, translation teaching becomesmore and more important nowadays because it shoulders many responsibilities forcultivating qualified translators. Many researchers contrast two languages  differentperspectives to discuss effective approaches to improve translation. However, CAT hasrarely been adopted  C-E translation teaching in vocational college. CAT makes anumber of senses by offering a more insightful viewpoint to the comprehending of secondlanguage learning and teaching, especially  the perspective of researchers and learnerswhose mother tongue is Chinese and target language is English. With the help of CAT,students can have a better understanding of the similarities and differences between the mother tongue and target language, which is useful for them to translate. What is more,CAT can not only help the teachers know whether learners have mastered the foreignlanguage learning or not, but also assist the teachers to improve their teaching methods. Itis on the basis of such diagnostic knowledge that the teacher organizes feedback to thelearner and remedial work. Under the guidance of CAT, teachers can make a relativelyreasonable teaching design to make the class more energetic, and also the students mayenhance their translation competence autonomously. So both teachers and students needcontrastive analysis in teaching and learning.The author surveys the current situation of C-E translation teaching in vocationalcolleges and makes a detailed analysis on CAT. Then she attempts to apply CAT to collegeEnglish translation in order to improve English majors’ translation competence andcultivate more translation talents for our society.

 

1.4 Overall Structure of the Thesis
This thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter One is the introductory part which is an overview of the research. It lays outthe research background, research objectives, research significance and overall structure ofthe thesis.Chapter Two talks about literature review which includes four sections: briefintroduction to CAT, previous studies on CAT, theoretical foundations of CAT andresearches on translation teaching.Chapter Three is research methodology. It introduces the research hypotheses, thesubjects’ ion, the research instruments and the teaching experiment. The teachingprocedures involve generally three stages: the preparation stage before translating, themanagement stage during translating and the euation stage after translating.Chapter Four is data collection and analysis. By comparing subjects’ scores intranslation tests, questionnaires and students’ feedbacks  the interview, the author gotthe result that students in EC under the CAT-d approach performed much better thanthose in CC under the traditional one.Chapter Five is conclusion. It includes three parts: the major findings of the research,pedagogical implications, the limitations of the research and some suggestions for furtherstudies.
