  Introduction引言

众所周知,翻译已作出了卓越的贡献,在人类文明的进步中,这是一个重要的文化交流活动。然而,翻译历史悠久,译者往往被忽视或边缘化,虽然他们无疑是翻译的重要组成部分。It is universally acknowledged that translation has made remarkablecontributions to the progress of human civilization in that it is an essential activity incultural exchanges and communications. However, in the long history of translation, translators were always ignored or marginalized, even though they were undoubtedlythe indispensible part of translation. Since 1960s and 1970s,translation studieswitnessed a "cultural turn", in which translation is no longer regarded as merelanguage transformations, and the source text is no longer the absolute standard oftranslation evaluation. Modern translation theories have put much emphasis on thecultural background of translation activities. As a result, the role that translators haveplayed in the whole process of translation becomes the rising focus of translationsstudies.https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/   Since it was put forward, the concept of the translator's subjectivity has beenheatedly discussed. The study of the translator's subjectivity has brought a new perspective fortranslation study. On one hand, with the notion of the translator's subjectivity in mind, subjective factors such as the translator's knowledge, interest, and aesthetic standards,as well as objective elements that have great influences on the translator including hiscultural background, social environment, ideology, and living circumstances, are alltaken into consideration when evaluating certain translation works. It shifts the focusfrom the text onto the translator and thus provides with a better and comprehensiveunderstanding of his translation. On the other hand, the differences of varioustranslated versions of a same text can be explained and understood with looking intothe translators' subjectivity.1984,a world-renown dystopian and satirical novel, written by British writerGeorge Orwell is crowned as a phenomenal and classic work of literature in the 20thcentury and has enjoyed wide popularity ever since its published in 1949. As apolitical novel, it naturally encounters political and ideological collisions whentranslated and introduced into other countries. Especially, in China, the novel was nottranslated and published until mid-1980s. Towards its translation into Chinese and itsintroduction into the mainland of China, the translator has made critical efforts. Dueto the sensitive theme of the book, the translator's initiative in choosing to translate itbecomes the essential prerequisite for the translation. Generally speaking, thetranslation of 1984 serves as an excellent example of how the translator's subjectivityworks and makes differences.Since the Chinese version of 1984 was published, Chinese literary critics haveconducted enormous researches from the perspectives of its theme, artistic features, and social influence, etc., focusing on the literary work itself. However, translationstudy of the Chinese 1984 has remained yet to be fully probed. This thesis willexamine the translation of 1984 from the perspective of the translator's subjectivityand discuss the manifestation of the translator's subjectivity in different stages oftranslation. Through comparing different versions, it attempts to explore thesignificant impact of the translator's subjectivity on translation. This thesis is both acomparative study on Chinese version of the book 1984, and meanwhile a research onthe translator's 论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
