Firstly, I am familiar to the methods to find abundant of materials at hand. Use the free database in the campus internet, log in the Google scholar and Google book website; even if I don’t make it, I can try to send the email to the writer to apply for the specific articles. That asks for great courage and persistence to accumulate the knowledge on your own.

Secondly, I learn to make the knowledge into practice. Actually, to remember the knowledge in class and to understand and use it are the two different things. The latter we are just like containers, all you need to do is to remember everything the teachers pour into your vessel without much thinking and creating. However, it is not the ultimate way for us. The goal for us is to think and use the knowledge, making the contributions to the organizations. This report helps me to train this kind of ability.

Thirdly, to do the right thing is much more important than to do the thing right. From the early beginning, if we don’t have a correct strategy and positioning deviation, the hard work will only become increasingly deviate from the correct direction. In order to avoid this bad result, I use the SWOT analysis model and scenario planning method to forecast BHP Billiton Company’s future in the report. They can help us find the most possible scenario for the organization based on the detailed and systematic SWOT analysis model in the highly uncertain environment (Wack, 1985). Scenario planning method can help us conduct a full and objective discussion, making the strategy more flexible and accurate. Clever players always can clearly imagine the next step and a variety of next steps in the chess scene. Scenario planning can provide preventive mechanism to allow managers to avoid panic facing the mutations (Simpson, 1992). The author believes that scenario planning method’s core is the systematic thinking and stimulating the ambition and imagination.

Lastly, I learn to expand the scope of application of the model. SWOT analysis model is first proposed by a professor of management at the University of San Francisco in the early 1980s. The model helps the organizations to conduct a comprehensive, systematic, accurate research, formulate development strategies and plans, as well as the corresponding development plans and strategies (Bunderson & Sutcliffe, 2002). SWOT analysis model can be used in many fields. For example, SWOT analysis model is a useful tool to check the personal skills, abilities, occupational pReferences and career opportunities. If we prepare a detailed SWOT analysis for ourselves, we will be very clear to know where our own personal strengths and weaknesses, and we will carefully evaluate the different career paths, opportunities and threats.
