研究意义——Significance of the Study
 
This study will help readers understand the importance, value and relevance of philanthropy marketing and the role large hotels can play in the socio-economic development of Jamaica as a tourist destination.

It will inform the reader of the aspect/s of the argument the researcher wants to pursue, thatis, large hotels, philanthropy marketing, socio-economic development and their contribution to sustainable development. This inquiry will help readers understand the role of philanthropy marketing as a strategy for socio-economic development in terms of the community, infrastructure; and the human, cultural and heritage resources among other factors.

Likewise, the term philanthropy marketing may appear new to some readers although they may have already been engaged in such activities, and so this inquiry is intended to better inform them of this concept and the similarities it bears with other notions such as corporate responsibility, global corporate responsibility, strategic philanthropy and Corporate Social Responsibility. The study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge; encourage future research in the area and stands as a claim to be accepted by readers.


现实意义——Practical Implications
 
The readers coulduse the information to be better informed of how they can be responsible to the social, economic and natural / physical environment of the destination and ultimately contribute to its socio-economic development.
Some of the potential practical implications are that readers might:
? Have a better understanding of the relationship between these concepts, that is, philanthropy marketing and socio-economic development;
 ? Accept the notion and incorporate it into their strategic management plan;
 ? Use it as a means to mitigate against any negative perceptions or impacts of their operations;
 ? Consider its benefit as being more than achieving publicity and making profits but to be more benevolent and considerate of the macro-society and
 ? Use it as a means to contribute to the sustainable development of Jamaica.

1. Government / Tourism Planners: To understand the contribution that large hotels may or may not make to the socio-economic development of Jamaica through the practice of philanthropy marketing. They :

? Will recognize whether or not philanthropy marketing is important in creating and strengthening linkages with the surrounding communities which will result in the people having a sense of belonging; reducing social and cultural barriers and creating harmony and
 ? Can insist or even mandate new investors through the legislation of policy to include philanthropy marketing in their strategic plan if it is advantageous in achieving socio-economic development:
