摘要:Small group discussion does help to offer a more relaxing and cooperativeclassroom atmosphere. Students in English classes are able to talk freely of thelanguage.
4.1 Data Analysis
According to table 4.1.1, in the Paired sample T test, the correlation coefficient is0.770 relatively high and the significance level of 0.025 < 0.05, which indicates thatwithin the 95% Confidence Interval of the difference, students exam marks of theexperimental class and the controlled class are significantly different. And referring tothe Mean in Table, the scores of experimental class is significantly higher than thoseof the controlled class. It also proves that the there is a positive connection betweenthe application of small group discussion and exam marks of English learners. That isto say, the using of small group discussion contributes to the good implementation ofEnglish class. It is believed that since students have built a strong sense of cooperativelearning abilities that they would like to put more efforts to class activities. Thestudents in the controlled class have a greater standard deviation, which means thescores in the controlled class change more serious than those in the experimental class.This kind of situation may have different explanations, including the change oflearning attitudes and the innovation to study. These factors can not be excluded in theprocess of carrying out experiments. Here is my conclusion: After introducing smallgroup discussion in English class twice a week, the experimental class had significantdifference in test results and the lower range of change in marks.

Conclusion
After the experiment with 35 students in Class Twelve, the following findings aredrawn according to the results of the questionnaires, tests and the interviews, theanalysis and discussion of the results. Small group discussion has a positive effect on students’ English marks. Thestatistics show that students’ marks got large improvement after studying in smallgroup discussion class. Students can learn from others, enlarge their knowledge andinspire their interest in English through this activity. And they will make many friends,become knowledgeable and improve their English marks in the end. We can see themore successful the small group discussion is, the higher marks the students will get.In small group discussion class students get the chance to take part in classactivities, which will gradually enhance their sense of belonging. And by cooperatingwith their partners, they will form a good habit of learning by themselves, which willcontribute to the learning process in the long run. As we always emphasis, students’initiative is the key to the study.
