摘要:本文是英语毕业论文,本论文在实证研究过程中严格控制变量,并在实证研究结束后对同传译员进行回访收录其使用省略的原因。通过定量和定性分析文本的转写和受试者的回访,笔者发现,不同主题的同传中都出现了省略现象,但是省略的使用根据主题的不同存在显著的差异。
Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
Simultaneous Interpretation, also known as Simultaneous Interpreting (SI), is aninterpreting form with the interpreter ceaselessly putting the source language into thetarget language in one speech without interrupting the speaker. With high efficiency asits biggest advantage, SI can ensure coherent speech and does not influence the trainof thought of the speaker, which is good to the audience to understand the wholemeaning of the speaker. SI is one of the popular interpreting forms in the world today.At present, according to official
statistics, 95% of the international conferences areusing Simultaneous Interpretation. The interpreter is listening on one side andinterpreting on the other side while the speaker is successively speaking. The averagetime interval between the source language and the target language is 3 to 4 seconds,with 10 seconds at most. Taking advantage of the little gap between two sentences tofinish the interpreting task is really a challenging work. Therefore, in order todumb-down the difficulty, scholars begin to study SI from different aspects and SI isbecoming a heated subject recently.Because of the difficulty in interpretation, the studies on omission of SI arebecoming increasingly important. The scholars at home and abroad have conductedstudies on omission from various theories, but rarely from the theory of Anderson’sThree Stages Cognitive Process Model. This model concisely shows the three stagesin the production of interpretation. The First Stage is structuring stage with the aim ofmastering the whole meaning of the speaker. The Second Stage is transferring stagewith the aim of seeking corresponding. The Third Stage is performing stage with theaim of expressing. Therefore, Anderson’s Three Stages Cognitive Process Model mayprovide a theoretical guidance for the study on simultaneous interpretation and this
thesis will conduct an empirical study on omission among different themes ofconference on the basis of Anderson’s Theory.

1.2 Objectives of the Thesis
This study is dedicated to three purposes. Firstly, it enriches the academicresearches on interpreting by applying Anderson’s Three Stages Cognitive ProcessModels to the study of simultaneous interpreting. Secondly, it aims to find out thedifferences of the use of omission among different themes of SI from empirical study.Last but not least, the causes of omission will also be analyzed from the perspective ofthe theory of Anderson. Therefore, interpreting workers and learners can adoptomission
strategy to enhance their abilities to improve the quality of their interpreting.With the trend of globalization and the increasing influence of China,cross-cultural communication between China and other countries has become moreand more frequent. According to statistics, 95% of international conferences are usingsimultaneous interpreting as the interpreting form now. And numerous studies havebeen conducted on SI and one of the key studies is how to improve the quality of SI.Given the fact that the use of omission strategy can improve the quality of interpreting,the study of omission is significantly important.Although extensive studies have been done on SI at home and abroad, few studiesare about omission.
