2.1 Social exclusion
Various definitions of social exclusions have been used, and here in this paper two of them will be reviewed. In the first place, social exclusion, as a status, can be perceived as a nonmaterial dimension of poverty.
For the second definition, social exclusion, if perceived as a process, can be defined as the process that a minority group has been belittled or ignored by society as a whole, and excluded from basic rights and opportunities of development, because of ethnicity, race, religion, gender, disease, migrant, etc. (DFID Policy Document)
From the cause-and-effect perspective, social exclusion refers to the interaction of many social misunderstanding and misbehaving that inescapably lead to the deprivation, of a certain group of people, to the opportunity to participate in the social and political life (Kenyon, Lyons & Rafferty). https://www.51lunwen.org/CorporateGovernance/2010/0629/2010227392.html
2.2 Social exclusion and Poverty To understand the concept of social exclusion requires the understanding of a series of related concepts, the top of which is “poverty”. The present common task of the whole human race has been the reduction of poverty, but too rarely have we tried to figure out the exact definition of it. What does poverty mean? Does it merely mean the living status without enough food or shelter? There are two dimensions of poverty.
What is the implicit relationship between social exclusion and poverty? In most of the cases, poverty is the cause as well as effect of social exclusion (Sen, 2000). That is, being poverty results in deprivation of certain rights and opportunities in social life (politically and economically), and this in turn becomes huge disadvantages that intensify poverty. It is also one of the objectives to research on social exclusion: to recognize that the poverty group are most susceptible to marginalization, and to eradicate social exclusion starting from the eradication of poverty.
2.3 Social exclusion and Capability deprivation
2.4 Social exclusion and equality
The concept of social exclusion is often linked with that of equality. Since social groups that are marginalized may be deprived of equal right of citizenship, social exclusion often result in severe inequality between the majority group and the minority group.
