The findings in this study give volunteer managers and organizational leaders in the community a basis on which they can examine their volunteer programs. While the available data was unable to explore whether there is a correlation between volunteer management styles in volunteer programs and volunteer recruitment, retention and motivation, the study was able to identify elements that should be considered when organizations in the Central Illinois area are creating volunteer management systems. This also shows local organizations that more attention is needed when it comes to surveying the current satisfaction and motivations of their volunteers. By identifying and addressing these needs, organizations can improve their management of volunteers. Furthermore, individuals who volunteer in the community can know that organizations are able to better equip themselves to manage their needs. By managing their needs, organizations can maximize volunteer retention and minimize volunteer turnover.

Conducting volunteer surveys at local organizations who use volunteers would be recommended to improve this study and give more guidance to others who wish to research this topic. This type of data is not available, and it is needed to assess correlation between management styles and the current volunteer recruitment, retention and turnover in Central Illinois. The IRB approval process was another limiting factor on the extent of this study. The responses from the Current Population Survey could have been improved had a researcher been able to extract the information from only the Central Illinois area. In addition, the data collected from the Volunteer Motivation Inventory could have been improved had it been more recent and conducted every couple of years in order to compare and contrast the results. On the same note, the volunteer motivation data presented in this study could have been improved had it taken place closer to the targeted areas of study. Volunteer survey results from Central Illinois organizations needed to be collected in order to fully explore this research topic.
