摘要:研究表明,英语专业的学生使用母语表现出语义韵律相似的特征,但更多的情况下表现出与母语不同甚至相反的语义韵律的特点。

  人的直觉是不够的来区分同义词的差异,即使是权威词典也难以解释清楚。因此,本文将采用一种新的方法语料库,进行描述同义词在词频,语义和语法上的差异。

  In recent decades, more and more people www.51lunwen.org come to realize that English vocabularyplays a vital role in English learning and teaching. English instruction is not onlyconfined to grammatical field any longer for there was a previous accepted view thatlearning a language should be predominantly associated with its grammar. MichaelLewis (1993) raised an objection against the view. He asserted that language consistednot only of traditional grammar but of multi-word prefabricated chunks. Teachersshould be inclined to concentrate learners’ attention to chunks. With respect to Englishvocabulary, modem English not only has the largest amount of words, but containsenormous numbers of near synonym. Therefore, how to exactly master synonyms hasalways been a big obstacle that remains to be overcome. Students usually neglect thepoint and give a confused account of lexical items which are commonly considered asnear synonyms. To explain a new word,the well accepted strategy commonly used byEnglish teachers is to provide the students with its synonyms. For example,when ateacher wants to introduce the new word “stool”,he or she may use the word “chair”to explain it. In fact, the denotations between chair and stool differ from each other, itwill definitely bring about negative consequence that students are inclined to form theview that the two words refer to the identical representation and can exchange eachother. Communication misunderstanding will incur in the end- Unfortunately, thesimilar situations recur notoriously.
  
  1.1 Significance of the thesis论文的意义
  As is known to all, vocabulary learning is the starting point to leam any language.According to Michele McCarthy “Without words to express a wider range ofmeanings, communication in an L2 just cannot happen in any meaningful way”(McCarthy 1990 viii).In other words, for a language learner, no matter how well heacquires grammar and how well he pronounces, he cannot, without vocabularysupporting, carry out successfully verbal communication with other people.Unfortunately through the past several decades, most linguists merely emphasized thesignificance of grammatical structures and rules, with vocabulary only being restrictedinto the area barely large enough to present the grammatical structures. In other words,the status of grammar was once regarded superior over vocabulary. It was not until the1980s, they began to convert their more attentions to vocabulary. For instance,Krashen (1989) argued that a large vocabulary was essential for mastery of a languageand the lack of large enough vocabulary was a vital problem. Vermeer (1992) alsostated that mastering words was the key to success of understanding and beingunderstood. That's to say,grammatical knowledge does not make sure of greatproficiency in a language and learning a new language largely ought to consist oflearning a bulk of new vocabularies.
