Abstract:
Francis Bacon was an English statesman, philosopher, scientist, lawyer, jurist and author. Attached with so many titles, Bacon’s life was really a magnificent one. His parents and some close relatives are all from the royal family, thus providing him convenient ways to get into their circles. He has ever served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England. But his most remarkable achievements came from the academic field and his life was rich in classical works. It was after that he was accused of corruption and driven out of the palace. Generally, Bacon’s works can be divided into three classes: the philosophical, the literary and the professional works. Many sentences from his essays were regarded as classics and quoted frequently nowadays, which also showed how famous he was. What’s more, Bacon’s contribution to the school of empiricism was also great. Therefore, Bacon has been called the father of empiricism.

Generally, if we become to like someone or want to know more about him or her, we are likely to be interested in his or her life, and then take a closer look at his or her life. The situation is similar when we deal with a writer. When we get to know a writer for the very first time, we may focus our attention on his or her masterpieces and academic achievements; however, after a rough looking into the writer’s works, we may come into questions like this: how did he or she do it? Or what made he or she come up with such an ideal? Naturally we tend to look into his or her life for answers. The living environment and the kind of life the writer leads, without doubt, have a great impact on his or her later achievements. But whether it’s a good impact or a bad impact, it differs from person to person.
For Francis Bacon, his great achievements came from his later part of his life. When he was young, he paid most of his attention to the pursuit of money and power. Therefore, he had no time to enrich his spiritual life and also had no chance to discover his talent in literature. But Bacon’s life was a magic one. He was born on 22 January 1561 at York House near the Strand in London, the son of Sir Nicholas Bacon by his second wife Anne (Cooke) Bacon, the daughter of noted humanist Anthony Cooke. His mother's sister was married to William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, making Burghley Francis Bacon's uncle. However, it has been suggested that he was actually the secret son of Queen Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley. As we can see, Bacon’s life was born in the kind of surroundings of a fellow of high-rank people.
As for his education, biographers believe that Bacon was educated at home in his early years owing to poor health (which plagued him throughout his life), receiving tuition from John Walsall, a graduate of Oxford with a strong leaning towards Puritanism. He entered Trinity College, Cambridge, on 5 April 1573 at the age of twelve, living for three years there together with his older brother Anthony under the personal tutelage of Dr John Whitgift, future Archbishop of Canterbury. Bacon's education was conducted largely in Latin and followed the medieval curriculum. He was also educated at the University of Poitiers. It was at Cambridge that he first met Queen Elizabeth, who was impressed by his precocious intellect, and was accustomed to calling本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
