摘要:The present study attempts to investigate the overall situation of metacognitivestrategy use in senior high school students’ English reading so as to find effectiveways to promote the students’ interests in reading.

As what can be seen from Table 4-1, the mean scores of the control class andexperimental class are 13.9 and 14 respectively, and the difference is so slight that wecan even ignore it. The standard deviation shown from the Table suggests that eventhough there are some differences among individual students within each class(SD=2.50 in experimental class; SD=2.26 in control class), the data of each class werequite similar which indicates a similar dispersion of the scores.From Table 4-2, we can see that the significant level of Levene's Test forEquality of Variances, Sig. value P (0.298)> a (0.05), therefore equal variancesassumed is valid. Thus we can get the result of the t-test for equality of means: Sig.value P (0.743)> a (0.05), which confirms that under a validity of 95%, there is not asignificant difference in their language proficiency between the control class andexperimental class before the research.

Conclusion


Although the present research is only a short-term and small-scale trial and thefindings are also expected to be confirmed by other researchers, the study still comesto some promising results.First, compared with the participants in the control class in which theconventional teaching method is adopted, the students in experimental class gothigher mean scores in the post-test aiming at measuring learning proficiency of theproductive vocabulary at the end of the semester. Besides, according to thecomparison of the two questionnaires collected from the experimental class beforeand after the research respectively, there is a positive change in the participants’learning strategies in English vocabulary learning which enables them to learnvocabulary more effectively in their future self-study. The results verify that studentsin the experimental class perform more active and creative in their vocabularylearning and also show up better productive capability than students in the controlclass, which can be considered as a strong evidence of the effectiveness of thememetics-based way of vocabulary learning to some extent.
