Chapter ⅥFindings and Discussions


6.1 The general situation of all the participants’ cognitive style
After the raw data were put into the analytical machine, the author got thefollowing findings, which could be helpful to find out the general distribution offield-dependent learners and field-independent learners among all the participants. According to table 6-2 and table 6-3, 45 of the participants are field-independentlearners while 27 of the total amount are field-dependent learners. It can be concludedthat there are more field-independent learners than field-dependent learners in termsof the mean and standard deviation of FI and FD participants. At the same time, it isobvious to see that field-independent learners behave better in part-of-speech learningthan field-dependent learners, for the average scores of their part-of-speech test is66.8000, which is almost 8 higher than that of field-dependent learners, the averagescore of which is 58.3333. What’s more, the statistics of the standard deviation of FIand FD also shows that the field-independent students are more steadily.

Conclusion


This chapter mainly includes the following parts: the findings of the research,some part-of-speech learning and teaching implications, the limitation of the presentstudy and suggestions for further study.The thesis is performed to find out the relationship between cognitive style andpart-of-speech learning. After collecting and analyzing the data from both thequestionnaires Group Embedded Figures Test and Test of Part-of-Speech, the authorgets the conclusion that cognitive style is positively related to the acquisition ofpart-of-speech. Besides, the second hypothesis is also be supported by the findingsderived from the original data. It is that the FI learners can achieve better languageproficiency than FD learners in part-of-speech learning. That is to say, the results arecorrespondent with the hypothesis in general. And the correlation between cognitivestyle and noun proficiency, verb proficiency and adjective proficiency are presentedas the following。
