As a branch of linguistics, lexical pragmaticsmainly concerns about the problems of information processing which study thecomprehension and choice of the words in use and the pragmatic narrowing andbroadening of the word meanings during communication from pragmatic perspective.Lexical pragmatics tries to solve some semantic problems through pragmatic theory andput its major attention on the pragmatic processing of the uncertain word meaningsduring communication. Based on vocabulary, lexical pragmatics incorporates thedescription and theoretical explanation of word meaning in use from pragmaticmechanism, context and encyclopedia. Moreover it also relates to the interfacialresearches among semantics, lexicology，cognitive linguistics and so on. Researchingword meaning together with word use, lexical pragmatics is a kind of theoretical modelformed by the combination of semantics and pragmatics. As an important subsystem of linguistic system, the system of word meaning goesthrough a development from static analyzing to dynamic study. The previous researchesof word meaning are mainly in the field of lexical semantics. As a branch of semantics,the central business of lexical semantics is to look into how the meanings of words aslexical items are encoded in a language. Lexical semantics only deals with word meaningas a dyadic relation whose goal is to investigate the relationship between words and theconcepts they encode.

2.2 A brief introduction of Relevance Theory
The Relevance Theory concerning communication and cognition brought a greatinfluence on Western pragmatics which put forward by Sperber&Wilson in theirmonograph Relevance: Communication and Cognition, Relevance Theory pays its majorattention to the subject of the inference procedure of information communication; what'smore, it explores the principle of timely discourse in language communication. The goalof Relevance Theory is to make sure a kind of initial mechanism rooted in human'spsyche and able to explain how people communicate with each other. Benefited fromGrice's Cooperation Principle (1957; 1957)，Relevance Theory, however，is not only asimple inheritance but also a kind of innovation.Since Grice put forward Conversational Implicature Theory, it aroused a plenty of esearches on pragmatic Reference and the understanding of natural language. Theessential issue in Relevance Theory is communication and cognition. Sperber&Wilsonput forward the Relevance Theory which makes a comparatively systematic explanationfor the communication from the cognitive perspective and elaborates the relevance thatpeople get in the cognitive process of each discourse, the discourse itself and the context.However, relevance is a relative concept whose degree depends on the relationshipbetween flie two factors, that is, the contextual effect and the processing effort. Therefore,Sperber & Wilson make the following definition of relevance on the content condition:Content conditionl: if a proposition makes a great contextual effect in acontextual assumption，this proposition obtains the relevance in this contextualassumption.
