Commentary: Who wants to be a triple trillionaire?

This article is about some people’s imagination how the China's central bank will use the China's foreign exchange reserves. As the China’s economy moves forward, we have witnessed and experienced a great many changes that have taken place in various aspects of our country, such as the phenomenon that the China's central bank has owned more and more foreign exchange reserves. As is shown in the text, we can clearly see that China's foreign exchange reserves counted up to $2.85 trillion. Although China’s government ran a rare trade deficit in the first quarter of this year, the new figures which released by the country's central bank on April 14th was showing that China's foreign exchange reserves has amounted to $3 trillion at the end of March. In accordance with its natural tendency, more and more people are caring which channel the China's central bank will choose to use the China's foreign exchange reserves.

What might account for the phenomenon? Numerous reasons can be given easily, but these will suffice. On the one hand, the China's external trade has been keeping the active trade balance for many years. A great number of the foreign exchange came into the China’s economic system (Xin Wang, 2010). On the other hand, China's central bank always put the special policy of the foreign exchange into practice in the daily economical operation. The policy of the foreign exchange asks the companies which are working on the foreign trade to turn the foreign exchange in the China's central bank. In the same time, the China's central bank will exchange the RMB which equal same to the foreign exchange they turn in to the trade companies (Paul Krugman, 2005).

It goes without saying that the article aims at revealing a serious problem in the China’s economic system and the world’s economic system. How the China's central bank use the China's foreign exchange reserves will determine how the future trend of the world’s economic situation goes on. The author envisaged that the China's central bank will use the China's foreign exchange reserves in four methods. They are buying the sovereign debt, the world famous companies and the foreign capital asserts which can rise in value, and buying the natural resources which can affect the national security. But, it is still difficult for the China's central bank to diversify the foreign exchange assets.

An alternative perspective on these issues is that the quantity per capita of the foreign exchange assets is not very much, which provides a very different perspective on the problem of the China's foreign exchange reserves. China has a great number of people, so the quantity per capita of the foreign exchange assets is not more than other developed countries’. Accordingly, all of us should not be anxious for the problem of the China's foreign exchange reserves in the current time (Qilong Cao, 2007).
