There is not enough time for systematic strategy training. Recentlymore and more teachers have been aware of the importance of listening and thenecessity of training students' listening strategies in English learning. For mostteachers，they pay more attention to training students' cognitive strategies to improvestudents' listening skills quickly according to New Curriculum Standard，but theyseldom take notice of students' metacognitive ability which can help students toadjust，monitor and evaluate their listening more efficiently.Meanwhile, the listening teaching methods in English class are singular andlack of effective self-monitoring and evaluation. New Curriculum Standard not onlydescribes what aims students should reach in English listening in junior high school，but also indicates the necessity of training students' metacognitive listening strategiesso that teachers and students have more potential to develop teaching and learning.There have been a lot of studies on metacognitive listening strategy since 1980swith great progress. 1.2 Objectives and Significance of the Study
This paper pays attention to how to train students' metacognitive listeningstrategies in English class in junior high school according to their mentaldevelopment at the age of 14 to 15. The paper analyzes the effects and the problemsof the training based on the test data and the results of questionnaires.As a whole, the paper confirms the importance of metacognitive listening strategy training through the empirical study and the survey of questionnaires. Andthe paper also gives the teachers guidance on how to train students in class anddevelop both students and teachers' awareness to make effective use ofmetacognitive strategies in listening comprehension as well as point out thelimitations.

1.3 Layout of the Thesis
The paper is organized as follows. Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction about thepresent situation of listening teaching in junior high school in China and theobjectives and significance of the study. Chapter 2 mainly presents the theoreticalfoundation, the necessity of metacognitive strategy training and shows the previousstudies on metacognitive listening strategy abroad and home. Chapter 3 describes theresearch design in detail including the subjects, the objectives, the instruments, andthe procedure, the training model in class and the case analysis.
