摘要:本文是一篇初中英语教学论文,本研究根据我国中小学生英语阅读素养发展目标理论框架,在整体语言教学法和建构主义学习理论的指导下,探索基于英语学习活动观进行英语整本书阅读教学来培养学生阅读品格的有效路径。

本文是一篇初中英语教学论文,本研究选取云浮市某所重点中学的97名学生作为研究对象,并采用问卷、访谈和教学日志等研究工具收集相关数据,进行为期16周共两轮的行动研究。

Chapter One Introduction

1.1 Research Background

1.1.1 The Requirement of National English Reading Teaching Reform

In contemporary society,the general public doubts the importance of English and thenecessity of learning English on account of the development of economy and theenhancement of comprehensive national strength as well as the rapid advance in translationsoftware.Particularly,there are still a great number of students spending a mass of time inlearning English but with low efficiency.

In addition to the general public,even some members of the CPPCC(NationalCommittee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference)called for the removalof English as a major subject.However,some famous experts in English teaching heldcompletely different opinions.The magazine editorial office of Foreign Languages(2021)invited some famous experts to express their opinions on the above doubt and proposal.Huang(2021)figured out that despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence,theexpression of machines was often unsatisfactory in many cases.Besides,Wen(2021)claimedthat English was a quality Education course,which could help students to better understandthe characteristics of the Chinese language and the subtleties of the excellent Chinese culturefrom a comparative perspective.Therefore,Mei(2021)suggested that we should focus moreon how to foster teachers to conduct English teaching well and how to assist students to learnEnglish in a more scientific and efficient way,so as to make English education satisfactory toChinese people.

1.2 Research Purpose

Cultivating students’reading literacy can effectively promote the development ofstudents’subject core competences and the cultivation of reading character is a vital part ofthe development of reading literacy.However,in the actual teaching,some teachers attachmore importance to the improvement of students’reading ability and neglect the cultivation ofstudents’reading character,which is not conducive to the healthy development of students’reading literacy.Therefore,by reviewing the literature of reading character and whole bookreading teaching(WBRT for short),the present research aims to figure out the efficient waysto conduct WBRT and to explore the effects of WBRT on the cultivation of English readingcharacter of junior high school students based on the whole language approach,constructivism learning theory and English learning activity concept.

2.1 Definitions of Core Concepts

2.1.1 Reading Character

In order to define reading character clearly,the definition of reading literacy should alsobe mentioned first.The International Association for the Assessment of EducationalAchievement first combined“Reading”with“Literacy”in its study in 1991.In the UnitedStates,Britain and other countries,reading literacy is regarded as the basic literacy among thecore literacy of students,and it is regarded as an important medium to transfer culture andpromote the development of students.
