Conclusion


In the present study, it is found that the teacher subjects have strong wish fortheir professional development. As to what to learn, they need to develop themselvesin the management of classroom activities, in the use of multimedia in classroomteaching, in the way to meet students' different learning styles, the way to stimulatestudents' motivation, and the way for them to do research work. These can be taken asthe focus in teachers' in-service professional development programs. With regard tothe approaches to in-service teacher education, the interactive approach in small classsize is recommended because these are the needs identified from the teacher subjects.Besides, more opportunities should be provided for young English teachers since theyare the less able group compared with those with more years of English teaching.It is hoped that this study could be served as a data base for the understandingof junior high school English teachers' professional competence and their needs forprofessional development. It is also hoped that the statistical results might give someenlightenments for the implementation of English teachers' professional developmentprograms.
The suggestions proposed for the future researches are listed in the following inaccordance with the limitations of the present study:Future researches are hoped to expand the samples of the subjects to otherregions of China to make the study results more accurate.Future researches are expected to do a deeper research in junior high schoolEnglish teachers' professional competence and their professional development.Future researches are suggested to put the whole framework of teachers'professional competence into the research.
