Before the research,the researcher conducted the questionnaire of reading character inEG and CG,and the results of the questionnaires were analyzed through SPSS 24 fordescriptive analysis and independent samples T-test,as is illustrated in Tab.5-1.

Based on the descriptive statistical analysis,the mean scores of CG and EG on readingcharacter were 71.29 and 70.90 while the standard deviation were 16.540 and 15.529respectively.By comparing the mean scores and standard deviation of the two classes,theresults showed that the average level of students’reading character in the two classes wasroughly the same.The independent samples T-test of CG and EG showed that there was nosignificant difference on reading character between the two classes(t(95)=0.120,p>0.05)while the difference between the means was 0.390.All in all,the two classes shared the samelevel of reading character before the research.

Chapter Six Conclusion

6.1 Major Findings

The present research aimed to conduct WBRT to cultivate students’reading characterbased on English learning activity concept.According to constructivism learning theory,whole language approach and English learning activity concept,the researcher employedgraded readers and designed three types of lessons and activities to conduct WBRT.WBRTconsisted of two parts,including whole book instruction in class and extracurricular freereading after class.In the first-round research,the students in EG formed certain readinghabits and enhanced positive reading experience.In the second-round research,portfolioassessment and sustained silent reading were adopted to encourage students to read actively.After data analysis and discussion in Chapter 4 and Chapter 5,some findings are illustrated asfollows.
