d citizens in America. B. Main Ways of the Patriotic Education The ways of the patriotic education are varied in America. There are two major ways to discuss. 1. Social Education of Patriotism The first is the social education of patriotism which has four points here. Firstly, Americans have to permeate patriotism among the religion. Most Americans are Christians and always say “God bless America”, “We believe in God”, “The sovereignty belongs to God”. America is a nation of immigrants and a “melting pot” of different nations. “All for themselves and God for us”, it is a philosophy of life which affects the thoughts of all Americans. Only civil religion can go beyond the limit of races, parties, and so on, be acknowledged by all Americans and it becomes the bond to unite all Americans. The American government sets great store by using the civil religion to spread the education of patriotism in America. Secondly, Americans have to permeate patriotism among the mass media. The movie of Hollywood has a great influence in the film industry of the world. Hollywood is a symbol of the movie of America. Hollywood produces all kinds of movie which fascinate audience. But if people have a look at it one more time, they will know it clearly that all the American films have such strong political color and most movies of Hollywood are giving publicity to the government of “American spirit” to the world. According to the report on the observation of economy, we can see that the history of Oscar, more than 70 years, is the history of “American spirit” undoubtedly. People are familiar with so many movies of Hollywood. Such as Titanic, Patton, Enemy at the Gates, Pearl Harbor, Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot, and so on. The theme is the incarnation of American spirit. The Association of American Movies established “The top ten movies in 2000”, which are Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Almost Famous, Before Night Falls, Best In Show, Gladiator, High Fidelity, Requiem for a Dream, Boy Genius, You Can Count on Me. All of these are regarded as top ten films to publicize “American spirit” by the media. For Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, MacArthur, their accomplishment is well-known to every family. Moreover, books are important media too. Doctor Robert • Townes, American famous scholar of library study, has recommended 25 books to Americans, which are necessary for them and, so important for the formation of American culture and civilization. Some classics, such as the Declaration of Independence, are full of patriotic spirit. Thirdly, Americans have to permeate patriotism among the festival ceremony and activity. Americans carry out the patriotic education through various festival ceremonies and activities. There are some very important patriotic festivals in America, for example, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, The American National Flag’s Day. When the festival, ceremony or gathering is coming, each and every family, far and near, including their cars, will hang the national flag. In the national ceremonies, everyone recites the oath: “I love this country, I protect this country!” And in the ceremony of the national flag, all people will say the vow by heart: “I swear that I am loyal to the national flag of the United States and the republic that the national flag represents…”So the patriotic festivals and ceremonies in America, even Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day among people, which are not only a chance to get together joyousl
