摘要:College English teacher talk, differs with the language that teacher uses in other context,that is used to organize the English teaching activities, to convey language information andso on. Teacher talk is a significant factor of teaching researches. The analysis and study ofteacher talk can explore the relationship between teacher talk and teaching effects. In EFLclasses, teacher talk affects students learning and class atmosphere significantly.This paper studies the teacher talk in English classes for non-English majors based onmany teacher talk samples, to explore how the different teacher talk amount and languagestyles influence the language learners. Based on Krashen’s input hypothesis theory, Swain’soutput hypothesis theory and Long’s interaction hypothesis theory, this research chooses 6different non-English major classes in Shanxi Datong University as the research samples.The corpuses are collected by class view, class notes, audio record, questionnaire survey, etc.

  5.2 Limitations of present research
  The present research is a case study in a local college which can not represent the wholesituation of the current English teaching all over the mainland. The research results are moreor less limited and reflect some region characteristics of college English teaching situation.And the teacher talk affects by some other factors, such as region, teaching level, and somefixed teaching modes in the local universities.And the range of the case study is just in six different classes which is too small tocover the whole college or local levels. And six teachers can not represent the whole team ofEnglish teachers. In this study, the teachers’ genders are not considered as an element.More importantly, the data collection of this research is not full. Audio-record just takesthe sounds of classes, but not the appearances and figure languages. Some activities are notcollected in detail, for example, some non-verbal behaviors are not collected.The data collected from each class in this study is just 45 minute, which is too short as asample of case study. The variables will change as the teaching content changes.To summarize, the limitations of this study lies in the small scale of data collection, andthe teachers’ genders under investigation are not accounted into, and the non-verbalinformation of teacher talk are not collected, the data sample are too short for each class, andthe questionnaire survey could be optimized.


  
  5.3 Suggestions for further researches
  Teacher talk research refers to broad scales and varied factors. There are somelimitations in this research which will give some inspiration for future researches. Thesample scale should be larger, not only from some classes in a college, but also from a region,much more classes and teachers can be chosen as samples. And researchers can use somevideo-recorders to collect the classroom materials. Van Lier (1988, p.238) argues: “videorecording is preferable, since non-verbal behavior is important for analysis”. Then thenon-verbal information can be taken into account to analyze the teacher talk in classes. Andthe questionnaire can be optimized or redesigned to generate a more suitable one to be issuedto much more students so that the questionnaire survey can cover larger subjects. Besidesabove, the teachers’ gender and age should be considered as the research factors. Becauseteachers talk characteristics may be totally different between male and female teachers.Furthermore, in the future researches, the researchers can collect many times of a class to getas sufficient as possible of the teachers talk characteristics. And some other factors can betaken into consideration to analyze teacher talk.Teacher talk research subjects can be in primary school, in high school, in college, invocational school, for English major class or non-English major classes. For different levelsor different research subjects, the research emphasis and research factors will be varied. Atthe end of this research, this conclusion is made, so that this research can shed some light onthe future studies.
