摘要:Memetics presents a new theory which can enrich English writing teaching forthe teachers to use more methods to enhance students’ English writing competence.According to the four stages of meme life cycle, language recitation should be firstlyadvocated.
2.2 Researches on Recitation and Imitation in EFL writing
In Cambridge International Dictionary of English, recitation means saying a pieceof writing aloud from memory. In other words, it means reading texts again and again,till texts are recited or dictated word for word. According to Modern ChineseDictionary, recitation means reading off the words by heart that had been read frommemory. Recitation as a one type of language input is a good method of gainingsomething by means of one's memory rather than texts.Recitation is the comprehensible input and Memory is one crucial element ofrecitation. Recitation should be combined with reflecting, comprehending andmemorizing. Through this process, students can memorize the knowledge andinformation from books. Therefore, recitation is a positive memorization procedureand it plays an important role of information processing. During recitation, the inputmaterials are repeated by students and their brains are given stimulus. In this way,students pay attention to the recitation materials and the materials are integrated in theshort-term memory. Along with the increase of recitation, students’ brainscomprehend and assimilate the language knowledge and information and then convertthem into long-term memory. With the help of recitation, students can get in touchwith more target language and embolden comprehension and accumulate languageknowledge. Furthermore, students can correctly express their opinions and avoid thedisturbance and negative transfer of Chinese (Deng Liming, 2001).
