Conclusion


This study aims at examining college students' self-determined motivation andlearner autonomy, and exploring the relationship between the two variables. Theselected subjects are freshmen from two universities. However, the number of subjectsis relatively small, and it is confined to one area. So we cannot generate those finding tothe country as a whole.Although both quantitative and qualitative methods are applied in this study, wecannot sure all the subjects* answers on the questionnaire reflect their real feelings orsituations for we cannot guarantee that they answer the questionnaires honestly.Moreover, the subjects in qualitative method are far more from enough and the processis informal. Other research methods such as observation should be applied in furtherstudies to reassure the findings.
Despite of this, this thesis empirically verifies the relationship between non-English major college students" self-determined motivation and learner autonomy inChinese context. Also, it shows the characteristics of students' motivation andautonomous learning ability to the teacher and scholars.In addition, the implications for fostering learner autonomy and cultivatingstudents' motivation are limited. Some other factors such as learning style, learningstrategies that contribute to the variance of learner autonomy should be considered inthe fxiture study.
