Conclusion
One of the most evident limitations of this study is its small sample size. Withonly two in-service teachers as participants, the results can not be generalized. So thestatistical limitation of the sample size is a limiting factor in this study.When considering the method with which the data collection was carried out, itneeds to be pointed out that although the students were not the focus of the study,their contributions in class obviously had an impact on how teachers responded andused LI and TL. This factor could be examined in future research.Even though the chosen lesson content (text analysis) is a rather comprehensivelesson type which always involve instruction of vocabulary and grammar,introduction of cultural traits,explanation of sentences of the text, practice oflistening and speaking,exercise of specific practice and writing purposely in arelative topic, the comparing averages may provide a distorted representation of theLI and TL use when in fact both these two languages seems highly variable depending on the content of the class and individual classes.
Finally, this study is descriptive in nature, with its aim being to examine thesituation regarding teachers' use of the TL and LI in English classroom in highschool, including the purpose and functions of LI use,the situations of TL use andthe factors affecting teachers' decisions about using the TL. As Turnbull and Arnett(2002) suggests, further research is needed to explore precisely why teachers choosetheir medium of instruction and what an appropriate ration of LI and TL use mightbe In the domain of teacher education: if maximal use of the TL is a valuable goal,how can teachers be persuaded of this and be motivated to work towards it? How canteachers be best equipped with the necessary proficiency and strategies that itinvolves?
