E-business 

Introduction

As the Internet has a fast development, e-business and e-business models have been a hot and important topic in 21st century. E-business, short for electronic business, is involved in internet and it is an application of the technologies of information and communication only to support all business activities. (Beynon, 2004) The significance of the development of networks and Internet technologies is far more than the emergence of e-business, and it changes the whole business https://www.51lunwen.org/ecommercebusa/ environment. The new innovations of marketing are inevitable to emerge. (Han & Kim, 2002) Among those innovations, business model is a necessary issue to talk about and study because right business model can help competitors survive the rat race. (Christensen, 1997) Under the environment of new economy, many attempts aiming to classify all the business models have been tried again and again. For example, from the perspection of Tapscott, eBay is an Agora B-Web, while Rappa considers eBay as a merchandiser online or an auction broker. The attempts directs at the same object but the conclusions come form various perspective. Timmers ever put forward an e-business model in 1999. As over ten years have passed, the business environment has changed a lot, and the definition and classifications of business model have proliferated. Are the theories of Timmers still practical to the circumstances at present? Is it resultful to compare these different versions?

As the first step, this paper gives a brief and clear presentation of definition and classification of e-business models to make the concept of business model clear as the foundation of the following analysis. The following sector of this paper is to pick out some new components of business models as a new framework as well as the criterions. Based on these criterions, the following sector gives a relatively critical appraise of Timmers’s e-business models and develops my own framework for classifying internet based businesses based on the former framework.

Conclusion

In this paper, a collection of different authors’ definitions and classifications of e-business models is presented. From different versions, the basic four components of e-business models – products, relationship, infrastructure management, and financial aspects are concluded as my framework. Based on these basic components and principles, Timmers’s e-business model has been appraised, and we can still believe in its reliability to the times. Besides, these criterions built up my own simple e-business model. At last, an e-business model must be examined successfully by real examples to declare its rationality, and this paper measure the core processes of the model.
