摘要:Now, more and more people study English technical texts. Most of people studied themin terms of vocabulary or rhetoric. But I paid attention to the grammatical features in Englishtechnical texts and discussed the grammatical features from two aspects: non-finite verbsstructures and parallel structures.
1. Introduction
With the gradual deepening of the economic globalization and the rapid development ofmodern science and technology, experts in science and language fields pay more and moreattention to English for science and technology (EST). EST is an important kind of Englishvariety, which is widely applied in scientific activities. EST has its idiomatic expressions andgradually has formed its unique characteristics and rules in respect of grammatical structuresand vocabularies in recent years(Qian,1990). According to the degree of formality in texts,EST can be divided into three categories: scientific papers, popular science articles andtechnology texts (Fang,1999). English scientific papers are quite formal, theoretical anddifficult to translate. English popular science articles cover a wide range of knowledge so thatthe translators have to be very knowledgeable. English technical texts are often highlytechnical, but they have obvious features in vocabulary, grammar and rhetoric at the sametime. So if you can find out and sum up the translation paradigms in the process of translation,it will be relatively easy to translate English technical texts. The book we translated is Digital Art Techniques for Illustrators & Artists and it is anEnglish technical text. It was written by Joel Lardner and Paul Roberts. Joel Lardner is anillustrator with an international client base and a senior lecturer at the Arts University Collegein Bournemouth, U.K. Paul Roberts is a senior lecturer who specializes in teaching the use ofdigital software and media at the Arts University College in Bournemouth, U.K.
Thanks to our teachers, Jia Lei and Li Qingqing, we got the chance to translate the book.Firstly, we translated the first few pages of the book. Mr. Jia helped us revise the translationand sent it to the publisher. After reading our translation, they were satisfied and asked us totranslate the book. Then we divided the book into four parts. We four students began totranslate it independently. Next, after finishing translating it, we started to proofread it. It wasa rather complicate and hard process. From terms to sentences, we had to check themcarefully. We downloaded two softwares: Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Illustrator CS5. TheChinese version of the softwares helped us a lot. They helped us not only indentify the termsbut also understand the meaning of every steps that mentioned in the book. Finally, afterrechecked the translation for several times, we emailed it to Mr. Li. He helped us revise andperfect it and gave it to the publisher. It may be published in July this year.

2. Non-finite verb structures and their translation strategies
2.1 Infinitive structures and their translation strategies
The infinitive is one form of non-finite verbs and an important factor for a long Englishsentence. The infinitive can have its own object, adverbial and complement, which makes upinfinitive phrases. Infinitive phrases are commonly abbreviated to IP. IP can play the role ofnouns in the sentences, so they can be subjects, predicatives, objects and complements (Zhao& Liao, 2011). IP can also play the role of adjectives or adverbs, so they can be attributives oradverbials. Therefore, we should regard the IP as a whole when we translate the Englishtechnical texts to Chinese ones. Infinitive phrases that serve as subjects can perform the function of nouns and本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
