摘要:本文是英语毕业论文,Writing takes up an important role in learning English, but it always is a bigheadache for both English teachers and learners. As Danesi’s points (1994), althoughthey did well in the verbal fluency, they lacked the conceptual appropriateness whichcharacterized the corresponding discourses of the native speaker.
Chapter 4 Results and Discussions
4.1 Research Results
The question in this paper needs studying is whether there is a connectionbetween metaphorical competence and writing ability. And if the connection exists,how the correlation between receptive metaphor competence and writing ability is andhow the correlation between productive metaphor competence and writing ability is.Well, before showing the result on the correlation between the two big aspects, theresults of test about metaphor competence and writing test are firstly introducedrespectively. Finally, the results on the two detailed questions are showed. This table shows the performance of English-major graduates in the part ofmetaphor identification. In this part, it is well known that the letter ‘N’ represents thenumber of the subjects and identification refers to the subjects’ competence in findingmeaning. In addition, the ‘mean’ is the average score of the testees. In this part of thetest, the full mark is 4.4. And from the table, it can be seen that the minimum score is1.6 and the maximum score is 4.0. Besides, their mean score is 2.96 and the std.is .568.

Conclusion
In the process of studying the correlation between MC and writing ability ofEnglish-majors, the main findings can be concluded as follows:First of all, through analyzing the result of the MC test, it can be seen thatmetaphorical competence of English-majors is not satisfactory. In the first part of thetest-identification, compared with the expectation, most subjects find the metaphorswith groundless or not very convincing. And in the second part-interpretation, moststudents can’t give more interpretations and they mostly can give one. Besides, nearlyall explanations belong to convention. In the third part-production, they prefer thestereotyped metaphors which refer to literal completions or inappropriatecompletions.Secondly, it is about writing level of the English-majors. Their writing level isalso lower than expected. most students can clearly express their views and thecontent of the article connects with the topic. However, the support points are notclear and the coherence is not good and even there are a few mistakes.
