In terms of  the  linguistic  studies,  Talmy  (1975)  firstly  adopted  this  kind  of  static  relation  into  the research  on  English  simple  and  complex  sentences,  which  initiated  the  wide acknowledgement  of  figure-ground  theory  within  the  cognitive  linguists,  and  the  theory  has become  an  important  cognitive  rule  in  language  analysis.  In  his  monograph  Towards  a Cognitive  Semantics,  Talmy  (2000)  stated  the  properties  of  the  two  concepts  of  figure  and ground  respectively  as  well  as  the  distribution  and  relation  between  them,  which  provided  a new theoretical support for the later language studies. Based on these studies, many scholars conducted different kinds of researches on language phenomena in virtue  of this new theory. For  instance,  Hanks  (1992),  Ungerer  &  Schmid  (2001)  and  Langacker  (2008)  conducted different  researches  by  this  theory  on  syntactic  reference,  language  itself  and  discourse.  In order to describe the dynamic and static relation  between these two concepts, many scholars such  as  Tailor  (1988),  Ungerer  &  Schmid  (2001)  and  Langacker  (2004)  used  the  terms  of “trajector” and “landmark” to indicate the relevant concepts, and then a new concept “path” was put forward to indicate the changing process of the relation between figure and ground.

2.2 Current Studies of D. H. Lawrence’s Poems 
Although the poet position of D. H. Lawrence has got widely acknowledged at home or abroad,  the  studies  towards  his  poems  still  leave  a  lot  of  vacancy  whether in  the  depth  or  in the breadth compared with the considerable achievements of the studies on Lawrence’s novels. However, the study on poems also shows its independent developing scheme from the vertical and horizontal dimensions in the studies both abroad and at home. Xu  Qinliang  &  Mei  Aixiang  (2013)  concluded  that  the  studies  aboard  towards Lawrence’s poems can be divided into four phases: the first twenty years of 20th century, the 1930s to 1960s, the 1970s to 1990s, and from the new century till now.
