ords like “X 光” which include foreign alphabet are called foreign lettered words or western lettered words, and words like “GB, HSK” are Chinese letter words, and words such as WTO, DNA and CD are abbreviations of foreign words, not belonging to lettered words. Zhou Yukong(2002) holds the third kind of definition that “letter words , opposite to Chinese words from the angle of writing，are mostly the abbreviation of foreign words or borrowed words with western letters”．According to his opinion，words like GB，HSK do not belong to letter words，but word codes. The representatives of the fourth kind of opinion are Huang Wengui and Xie Yinjie (2002), and their definition isn’t based on forms of words. And they believe that letter words are those which are sinicized and have some features of Chinese. These words can integrate into the Chinese vocabulary. Pan Xuelian(2006) thought letter words are words with letter that have nature of sign used in Chinese.

2.2 Classification of Letter Words
After concluding and summarizing the previous fruits on classification of letter words according to different criteria, the following is classification of lettered words from perspective of word formation. 1)Lettered words made up of foreign letters and Chinese characters, such as SIM 卡，U 盘，B 超，AA 制, 三 K 党，动漫 SKY, E 调。 2)Letter words made up of abbreviation of foreign words, such as PK( player killing),WTO (world trade organization), GDP (gross domestic product), CCTV(China Central Television), CBA (China Basketball Association), among them, “CB” and “CCTV” represent the things that only China have. 3)Letter words expressed by foreign letters, such as QQ which doesn’t have specific foreign meaning. 4)Letter words made up of original shape of foreign language, such as E-mail, FLASH. 5)Letter words made up of foreign letters and numbers, such as PM2.5, MP3, 3D. 6)Letter words made up of the abbreviation of Chinese pinyin, such as RMB, HSK. 7)Letter words made up of numbers, foreign letters and characters, such as 3B 铅笔，B5 纸，A3 版. According to the field of usage, letter words can be widely used in different domains． 1)Education：MBA，GRE，TOFEL，BBC 英语，TOEFL 考试, 2B 铅笔 2)Science and technology：PC，MP3，CPU，a 粒子，B 射线. 3)Medicine and health：DNA，CT,WHO，X 染色体，O 抗体. 4)Economy：GDP,APEC，A 股，CAD 设计，GNP,CEO，OPEC. 5)Physical education：NBA，CBA，CUBA. 6)Culture，literature and entertainment：卡拉 OK，MTV,ISPA，CCTV. 7)Name of people，product or company and organization：阿 Q，IBM，PICC. 8)Military：B．52 轰炸机，F 一 117 隐形飞机，M16 步枪.
