3.1 INTRODUCTION:

This Chapter illustrates the methodology applied, that seeks to outline the basis for the research strategy and the data collection methods utilized, offering an explanation of why the selected research strategy (single case study) were considered appropriate to find out what are the key success factors that affect the outcome of an IT outsourcing solutions.

The literature review on the previous chapters provided the input for the methodology discussed in this chapter “why there is an urgent need for IT outsourcing to embrace change management to balance their technical expertise and employee management”. The research objectives and research process will be outlined first, followed by data collection method. However, as stated by Gill and Johnson (2002) and Bell (2002) a number of factors will affect the choice of methods such as the researcher’s philosophical approach, availability of resources, timescale of the study, access to information, and the context in which the study takes place.

Furthermore, this research study will be applied on an Airline company in Bahrain that has outsourced all its IT functions to an American company that provides outsourcing services, based on 10 years contract. In the coming sections will be introducing the proper research approach selected over others; starting with general overview of research philosophy and research types.

3.2 RESEARCH OVERVIEW:

The research process defined by Persing (1977:23) that it is like a communication, his definition includes the process of research that stimulates memories, concepts and understandings to solve a problem:
