Prioritize the goals based on its urgency or cost to business.


Specify the minimum expectations of results. Broad sets of goals should always be narrowed down to few measurable goals. This helps individuals to focus on specific goals.


Expand and extend the process. Once the first set of goals are achieved, it should be possible to repeat the process based on new or extended goals.


Improvement At Organization Level


The performance management process should always begin with the definition of mission statement. This defines the overall purpose and vision of the organization, clearly setting up on what is to be achieved.

 

Organizations also highlight 'values' to develop a value driven organization. Values are the core foundations of organization based on which the organization intends to achieve its missions.

 

The achievements and progress of performance should always be measured against the objectives. Hence organizations should decide the measures to be used.

 

Jack Welch, when he was the CEO of GE, mentioned that Customer Satisfaction, Employee satisfaction and Cash inflow are the three important measures that Organization should be concerned with.

 

Balanced Score Card


Balanced score card can be thought of a strategy chart of accounts for an organization. It is extensively used by organizations to align their small-scale actions towards the wider organization goals/vision and also to improve communications at all levels. It is also used to measure performance progress against objectives. It was originally proposed by Robert Kaplan and David Norton. According to them, the managers need to look at the business from the following four perspectives:

 

To examine if the organization strategies and executions are contributing to the expected growth of the organization.

Customer.What image does the organization project on their customers and the steps to improve customer satisfaction?
