基于战略和前景资源---Resource based strategy and view


Resource based strategies, views employees as an asset rather than cost to the company that is helpful in developing the knowledge, skills and ability that delivers or contributes to the objectives of the organisation. Resource based viewing views the resources and assets from the view of competitive environment (Prahlalad and Hamel, 1990).The main idea is not to consider the employee as a cost but try to use it as an asset that can be advantageous to the organisation. Firestone should have viewed the employees as if they could be the return of the business and not the input cost so as to get an additional edge in the competitive environment (Barney, 1991).Using the resource based orientation can be beneficial for evaluating the performance of the organisation. Firestone did not realize the knowledge, skills and abilities of the employee which is the basic key to achieve competitive advantage (Spender 1996).


However it is important to note that Resource based viewing also have some critiques. The first one is that it tells the managers to view the employees as asset but does not highlight on the point as to how it should be done(Connor 2002,Miller 2003).The success of a company is determined by the capabilities and resources available within the organisation, that is, by internal resources and not the external conditions (Huselid, Jackson and Schuler,1997).Firestone should have viewed the human resources to prove an advantage in the competitive environment that could be the reason for their success. According to Barney (1991), to sustain in the tough market, firestone should have understood the importance of their workers that could be profitable and valuable. They should have distinguished between their available internal resources to the resources of their competitors. Firestone should not have fixed position of the workers instead they could have alternatives and substitutes that could provide them the extra ordinary factor required to capture the market. Firestone should have developed their valuable resources in such a way so that it could not be imitated by other competitors and could have used them as an edge in the competitive market (Hoopes, Madsen and Walker 2003:890).Hence firestone could have achieved competitive edge in the market by hiring unique workforce that possesses different capabilities and working abilities from the competitors. Firestone should have also applied tactics that differs and could not be imitated or copied by their competitors.


Training procedure could be of utmost importance because company may provide training just keeping in mind the fact that they need to create or develop employees that have got an extra edge from their competitors and should be excellent in their specified fields.

Resource based strategy should be placed properly to know the competencies so that an organisation can stand in the competitive market. To meet these Competencies, organisation should be updated with all sorts of development and advancements taking place in the market.
