一.  选题的依据及意义
Nowadays, body language plays a very important role in the daily life. There are many studies focus on the usage of body language in cross-culture communication. People from different countries can communication with each other by using body language. What’s more body language helps us to express ourselves better.  
However, the significance of body language in teaching, especially in middle school English teaching has been overlooked. It has been noticed that many teachers in middle school ignore body language. For example, it is not rare to see teachers focus on their books without making any eye contract with their students. As a result, the students may lose interest in what the teachers are focusing on. Some teachers are quite serious without any facial expressions. This leads the students to feel boring about the contents of the class. In some other cases, the teachers just put their hands behind their backs while presenting their class. They give the students an impression of awkwardness and seriousness, thus sometimes the student may not be able to listen to the teacher in a relaxed emotion. 二．国内外研究现状
   It is recorded that scholars ’research on body language dates back to Greece period, in which the philosopher Aristotle analyzed how people express their thoughts and wishes by action. But the most famous professor that makes a systematic study is Professor Birdwhistell, from Pennsylvania University, who published the book Introduction to Kinesics in 1952 and proposed the theory of kinesics formally. Then more and more researches on body language are made not only by writers and socialists but also by businessmen and educators.
In the past years, many books have studied the importance of body language in education field. For instance, Rivers , an American linguist who writers The Psychologist and the Foreign Language Teacher, explores the importance of foreign language teachers’ quality including a teacher should understand people’s behavior, gesture , and facial expression and points out that a teacher should properly uses the body language. Keith Johnson’s book An Introduction to Foreign Language Learning and Teaching also states some kinds of body language used for teaching in foreign language classes. In recent years, the American course standard has attached importance to non-verbal communication which includes body language.
Just as western countries, China has also paid more attention to the research of body language in education field. In order to improve the teaching quality and create a happy classroom atmosphere, many scholars and writers make several researches on it. For example. Jiang Tonglin and Gui Dasong have Teacher Language Summary, in which mentioned the artistry of body language used in classroom teaching has functions such as attracting students attention, complementing spoken language.
