Conclusion

This thesis aims at introducing some important information about the compoundnouns in EST. Nowadays technology has exerted a profound and lasting influence onlanguage practice and human society. Therefore, EST has become more and moreimportant and the compound words have great influence. In the process of translatingsome scientific article, we would meet many compound words all the time.Consequently, it is necessary to get to know the definition and the characteristics of thecompound words. Only by doing this, we can solve the problems about compoundwords in the process of translating scientific articles. With the development ofproductivity, many new knowledge and production come into being, so human mustname them. That’s the reason why so many new compound nouns emerge every day.This thesis introduces many different aspects about compound nouns in EST. Itincludes the current research condition, definition, characteristics, translation methodsand some problems in the process of translating compound nouns in EST, and alsosome information about scientific translation is included.
The first chapter of this thesis introduces the research background of this subject,the research methodology, the structure of the thesis and the theoretical and practicalsignificance briefly. In Chapter 2, it expounds the compound word and compound nounin EST, and introduces the existing current research situation of compound nouns inEST. Chapter 3 is the focal point of the full thesis, and it analyzes the translation ofcompound nouns in EST in four angles, such as in conventional understanding andtranslation, unconventional understanding and translation, translation on the level ofsemantic function and logical relationship. It also enumerates some cases to each kindof translation method and analyzes them specifically. The last chapter lays particularemphasis on common problems which would be encountered in translating thecompound nouns in EST, and analyzes some cases to find appropriate solution for thetranslation of compound noun in EST.
