摘要:With the purpose of putting forward an effective way to improve the EFL education inChaoyang area, the thesis focuses on the influence of Chaoyang local accent on theacquisition of English pronunciation, to work out some strategies to avoid the influence orinterference from local accent.

the differences between Chineseand English in sound systems from aspects of phoneme, tone and intonation, rhythm andjuncture; by He Shanfang (He 1987),made a comparison between Chinese and English inphonetics from five aspects to testify the importance of contrastive analysis in Englishpronunciation teaching; by Hong Ming (Hong 2004), in which the writer investigated thenegative transfer of mother tongue by comparing English and Chinese pronunciations, andbased on that probed solutions to avoid it in pronunciation teaching.

Chapter 5 Investigation on Influence of Chaoyang Accent on the Acquisition of English Pronunciation


In this chapter, the researcher summarizes pronunciation errors committed by Chaoyanghigh school students through unfolding the actual data distinctly in tables, which followed bydetailed interpretation of each kind of problem and also analysis of causes. And based on that,theresearcher also comes up with some corresponding solutions. In the process of distributing questionnaires, the author made a survey on 200 Senior Onestudents actually, but the collected valid questionnaires are 115. The following questions areoutstanding problems in the questionnaire: About the question “Have you ever learned English pronunciation rules systematically?Do you know how the speech organs work? “Analysis from the collected questionnaire,at thebeginning of learning English, 80% of the students did not learn English pronunciation rulessystematically and 75% of the students has no idea how the speech organs work when they makean English sound. This suggests that mastering basic phonetic knowledge is very necessary andimportant for English beginners. About the question "In middle school, how do you practice your pronunciation?” 55% ofthe students choose the first option that is imitating their English teachers' pronunciation. 30% ofthe students choose the option D, which means that they didn't realize the importance ofpronunciation and didn't make efforts on it. Only 15% students choose the options B and C byimitating tapes or practicing by mirrors.
