nbsp;environmental  issues  are  global  warming,  ozone  layer  depletion, biodiversity  decrease,  acid  rain,  deforestation,  desertification,  air  pollution,  water pollution, marine pollution and solid waste pollution. Global environmental problems and  ecological  crisis  can  be  seen  from  the  following  data.  For  example,  at  present, the  disappearance  rate  of  the  plant  and  animal  species  on  Earth  is  becoming  faster within the past 65 million years. As a result, there are about 100 extinct species every day.  There  are  more  than  3800  kinds  of  mammals  all  around  the  world,  whereas about 110 species or subspecies have become extinct since the 20th century. Besides, there are more than 600 kinds of animals and more than 25000 kinds of plants on the brink  of  extinction.  Ecologists  point  out  that  it  will  cost  more  than  one  hundred million  years  to  naturally  recovery  the  biodiversity  loss  caused  by  human  beings. Water  pollution  is  also  a  big  problem,  especially  in  the  third  world  countries. Statistics  suggest  that  appropriate  safe  drinking  water  is  not  available  to  more  than 1.7  billion  people  in  the  world.  A  survey  announced  by  the  UNEP  (United  Nations Environment  Programme)  shows  that  every  day  the  death  toll  caused  by  water pollution in the third world countries reaches up to 25000 on average. There are also some other global environmental issues, such as climate change.

1.2 Rationale and Objective of the Research  
In  the  closed  corpus  built  by  the  author,  there  are  150  English  environment neologisms  collected  from  Word  Spy,  which  is  a  timely  updated  neologism  website established  in  1996.  The  author  finds  out  that  the  total  number  of  English environment neologisms in Word Spy has been increasing sharply since 1996, which can be seen clearly from Figure 1.1 and Figure 1.2. At present, the situation of global environment is still unoptimistic. Therefore, people will pay more and more attention to the environment.
