摘要:The two images of “ice” and “fire” appear in the novel frequently, which are closely related to the hero’s and the heroine’s fates. One has become the symbol of sadness, misery and despair, and the presentation of ice is always in the time when the heroine is in most miserable conditions and in the most despair mood.
, her hope for love and the confession of Mr. Rochester’s sincere affection. When there is the presence of fire, it is always the times when the hero and the heroine are in the most unconstrained and uneven mood, it may be the rebellion towards the fate, the hope and despair for the love, the complaint for the marriage without love, which are all related to the pursuit of the happiness, freedom and equality of the hero and heroine. It seems that the fire always appears in the turning point in the hero’s and heroine’s fates. The author uses the image of fire to wind the hero’s and the heroine’s fates, entering new circumstances continuously. Prometheus steeling the fire and Suirenshi getting the fire from the wood both embody the devolution from generation to generation between the fire and human, and the circle of life has had a certain inner connections. The fire is the effective tool for the protagonist exceeding and overcoming the wildness and chillness temporarily. Therefore, when Jane faces the humiliation and despairs, she always breaks out the fire-like passion, burn herself to try to rebel. The flaming flames depict the life tract of the hero and heroine, and symbolize their silent rebellion and revolt. These two embodiments show the passion and exceeding of love, the realistic and the ideal, the hope and sublimation of the underworld and the paradise. They often appear in the key moments related to the characters’ fates, reveal the theme of the protagonist suffering, pursuing and acquiring the happiness, and therefore compose the thematic images in the novel, which makes the novel have more sincere significance. The contradictory images of the “fire” and “ice”, vigorously gives prominence to character humanity, and exaggerates the atmosphere. At the same time, it serves as the concealed line, which makes the climax one after another in the novel, promotes the development of the plot, and deepened the theme of the novel. The images of “fire” and “ice” shine mutually, and greatly strengthen the charm of the personality of the characters, and add the moving power to the novel.
