摘要:Nowadays with the worship of money and the lack of heroic fiber being widely circulated, the reading and studying of Longfellow’s A Psalm of life and The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls is very significant, since they can stimulate the sparks of our dreams and enthusiasm on life. Longfellow believes that the charm of art is everlasting and the spiritual flame of striving forward will never go out.

ongfellow's life. But he is sort of in a better mood.
In 1868, Longfellow traveled to Europe for the last time accompanied by his children. During this trip, he received honorary degrees at Oxford and Cambridge, invited to Windsor by Queen Victoria, and called by request upon the Prince of Wales. He was chosen a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and of the Spanish Academy. Longfellow was selected as a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and of the Spanish Academy. He also immortalized The Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts with his Tales of a Wayside Inn in 1863. He was such an admired figure in the United States during his life that his 70th birthday in 1877 took on the air of a national holiday, with parades, speeches, and the reading of his poetry. He had become one of the first American celebrities and was also popular in Europe. When the chestnut tree on Brattle Street had to come down, the tree featured in his poem A Village Blacksmith ("Under a spreading chestnut tree"), the children of Cambridge collected pennies to have a chair made for Longfellow from the chestnut tree’s wood for his 72nd birthday. In 1884 he was the first and only American poet for whom a commemorative sculpted bust was placed in Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey in London.
Longfellow published over twenty books, the last book, In the Harbor, in 1882. The Bells of San Blas (his last poem) was written close to March 24, 1882, the date he died at age 75 of peritonitis, which claimed his life within five days. Longfellow lays at rest in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was the first American poet whose bust was placed in the Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey.
Longfellow is very good at finding unexpected meanings out of everyday experience. Thus in this poem, the simple language reveals a very profound philosophical theme: time and tide wait for mo man. Time and tide are eternal but human life is limited. Time fades, tide effaces, but people are powerless before nature. The repetition of “The tide rises, the tide falls” for five times suggests the cyclic movement of nature and reflects the uncertainty of human life, appealing to people to cherish life.
2.1.3 The Meaning of A Psalm of Life
A Psalm of Life has served as one of the most inspirational poems in literature since it was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Longfellow, a well—loved American poet, is well known for A Psalm of Life and the lessons on life it illustrates. The primary message of the poem, although haunting, is that life is beautiful. The lyrical lines and inspiring message of the poem has been handed down through the years, bringing hope to new generations today.
Longfellow begins his poem A Psalm of Life with the exuberance and enthusiasm that continues through most of the poem. He begs in the first stanza to be told "not in mournful numbers" about life. He states here that life doesn't abruptly end when one dies; rather, it extends into another after—life. Longfellow values this dream of the afterlife immensely and seems to say that life can only be lived truly if one believes that the soul will continue to live long after the body dies. The second stanza continues with the same belief in afterlife that is present in the first.
Longfellow states this clearly when he writes, "And the grave is not its goal," meaning that life doesn't end for people simply论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
