摘要:本文介绍科学管理之父¬—泰勒的“科学管理原则”的发展历史,以及其他学者对“科学管理原则”的不同看法。无论如何“科学管理”对现代公司管理还是很有利用价值的。

Taylor express that all the work must be change to specific work method which mean all of the works are breaks down into several simplest forms of works. So that the workers will be given a clear and simple directive on how they should do on their works. By doing this, the control of management towards the workers will be improved because the workers had already become like the mechanical operation of extensions. Besides, the productivity of the works can be clearly seen increases in short time (Ken Browne, 2006). On the others hand, there is a criticisms about Taylorism that all of the works had reduced the skill requirement of workers. Due to all the works have become simplest form works, it also minimization of works learning time. So it can be clearly seen that the knowledge of the workers do not get improve when their works do not need any kind of skill (Martin Thrupp, 2003).

 

On the contrary, scientific management was developed with response to a motivational problem, people at that time mention as 'soldering'. By referring to Kanigel (1997), explained that the word 'soldiering' had related to soldiers who, when transported by ship, acted as privileged passengers. They were free from the work on board that seaman had to fulfil. Thus, such work avoidance came to be known as 'soldiering'. It means that the workers do least amount of works in a long period of time. Taylor described that soldering as 'systematic soldering'. It will happen due to the poor management control of workers, so that the workers have chance to work slowly to complete simple works. Moreover from the view of the workers at that time, if the productivity output of a factories increase would be result in redundancies. To overcome this problem, Taylor had set a time standard goals for the works. He mentioned about 'time and motions study' method to measure the works production in the factories. It means all the works must be finished in the fixed time. By doing this, the problem of systematic soldering can be easily reducing. However, the time and motion study method can just measure the performance on one personal worker himself only (Robert Mayo Hayes, 2001). Consequently, Taylor had set up incentives payment to the workers. The purpose is to rise up the workers' effort when running a work. In practical, Taylor had made all the equipment and materials could be kept standard. By this, the workers those who had made increased in output productivity will get incentives payment (Hunt 1952, Bryn Jones 1946).

 

There is a view from Beirne (2004) describe that how taylorism apply into customer service call centres system until nowadays. The contents of each conversation had made by customers, the time duration of each customer called, and the advices to be given to the customers, were all prescribed and fixed. By using this call centres method, it had illustrated the push towards productivity goals easily.
