It is normally regarded as rapid, official, objective inmass communication. This paper focuses on selecting samples of international political newsreports from China Daily, New York Times, the Guardian and Agence-France Press, as they areall the well-known, essential and influential news media in the world. China Daily is the mostofficial and the only national English newspaper in china, which is the window ofpropagandizing Chinese governmental policies and claims as well as broadcasting Chineseimage to the outside. New York Times is an American dominant media which is regarded asone of the most influential press in informing the public of the American governmentalassertion and the significant international affairs. The guardian is a British newspaper, and italways has its independent opinion on the international political issues. Agence-France Press isone of the most notable news agencies in the world and it is famous for comprehensive andobjective reporting the great international events. Although these four media are allwell-known for authority, entirety and objectivity, their reporting styles and focuses of interestsare various since they are established in different countries with the individual culture andideology as well as serving for different parties. Therefore, it is worthwhile to survey andcompare their differences. Now we are in the trend of the globalization of cooperation andcompetition in which all kinds of events take place worldwide, the international politicalreports have always been the eye-catching matters in news industry, as the issues are sensitiveand involves different countries’ interests and power. All the time, the focus of internationalpolitical reports has been on the affairs of several great economies and the middle-east situation.However, since the outburst of the Egyptian riots and the series chain effects, the wholeAfrican Arabian world events draw the international awareness. As the rebellion and conflicttouch upon the west power’s interests and awareness, a large number of related reports aboutthese issues emerge. Consequently, this paper chooses the news discourse about this event fromthe above dominant media in order to demonstrate the hidden ideology and intentional power.Just like Fairclough and Van Dijk claim, different ideologies embedded in the differentdiscourses may present different social issues, as they are produced and reproduced in theforms of speeches and texts of the social actors as a member of their groups. (Fairclough, 1995,2004; Van Dijk, 1993, 1998) Therefore, it is of importance for the researchers to study howdifferent social groups’ ideologies are indicated and how they use language to maintain theirpower for the sake of their dominance of interests.
