Values are defined as special kinds of attitudes that are highly abstract ideas about what is good or bad, right or wrong, desirable or undesirable (Kaitilla). The oriental culture, which is always titled as "traditional", guides people behaving totally different from western culture. In western society, people are more likely to be independent. It is common that they leave home at a young age and support themselves afterwards. And it is nothing wrong for the parents to be independent after the retirement at old age. However, in eastern countries, most parents support their children until they get married and they depend on the children to look after them after the retirement. It is heinous if people leave their old parents alone.

The value usually guide people to behave in a subtle way. Most of the time, it creates an environment for people to follow and fit in before they notice it. However, for other times, it imposes the morality and responsibility, forcing people to follow. For instance, a person may still take care of the parent even if he or she does not want to because the public opinion and judgments can be very stressful.
