THESIS: Prejudice in our world comes in different shapes and forms but one critically dangerous and unethical one is racial profiling.

 

There she walked tall, blonde and confident across the airport check- in, along with her tall dark skinned husband, with his beard hanging right over his chest and his hair covering his face. Looking very masculine; his face had a few scars, which were very intimidating to look at. The travelers at the airport looked at him curiously with fear. Suddenly the security guards pointed at him angrily, then approached him cautiously and asked him to step into a special booth in which they were going to check him carefully or in other words “frisk him deeply”. The husband felt outrageously surprised, he thought to himself “what might be wrong? I have been travelling around the world for my whole life! And I have never been treated so uncaringly. To him this was such a strange and utterly unprecedented experience, and likewise, to his wife it was a shocking and a very scary one. His wife thought to herself why would they pick him out of everybody around, what did he do wrong? Why out of all the people have they chosen my husband for a frisk?” ... now this is definitely a position that you do not want be in or come across, because not only is it very embarrassing but also because it is really frustrating and time consuming. Have you been in this position before? Or have others that you know closely been through such an experience in their lives? Have you ever been in the position where you felt like, out of everyone else around you, that you were the only one getting picked on? That you were branded and that you are different .well guess what? , you are not the only one out there: “who has felt like he was getting picked on at one point or another in their lives”. Prejudice or prejudgment, which is judging something or someone before getting to adequately know them or have some personal contact with usually because of race, social class, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics (wikipedia, 2010), is what causes there to be racial profiling in our world , which is using a person’s race , religion or ethnicity as a key factor in deciding whether to engage in enforcement (e.g. make a traffic stop or arrest) by security personnel (wikipedia , 2010) or simply being treated in a special way by other people from different races or religions. Prejudice in our world comes in different shapes and forms but one critically dangerous and unethical one is racial profiling.
