improve students’self-confidence and interests.Inspired by the previous reports and relevant theories, this thesis attempts to implement thevalue-added evaluation in English teaching reading of junior high school and furthermore, the authorimproved the reading portfolio and will apply it in this experiment.
  


  1.3 Research Objectives研究目标
  The objectives of this thesis are to find out the effects of value-added evaluation on improving theEnglish reading achievements of junior school students, to identify the role of value-added evaluation oncomplementing English reading strategies of junior school students, and to take full advantages of thepositive effects of the value-added evaluation on enhancing the reading ability of students in differentlevels.
  


  1.4 Significance of the Research研究意义
  The present experiment is of considerable theoretical and practical significance. Value-addedevaluation has great effects on reading. This kind of evaluation is different from traditional way, it focuseson critical thinking and argues that marks based on task are not final but evolving (Luo, 2003). Quantitativeand qualitative studies in this domain will certainly contribute to the development of teaching reading.The results of this study have practical significance as well. This will enrich the study on formativeevaluation, let language researchers and teachers realize the importance of learners and individualdifference in reading, and slip light on the ways to improve reading abilities, develop reading techniques oreven provide insight on English reading in china.
  


  1.5 The Organization of the Paper论文结构
  This thesis consists of five chapters: 1) introduction; 2) literature review; 3) research design; 4) resultsand discussion; 5) conclusion.Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the present study. The author expatiates on the studyingbackground, motivation, objectives and significance of this thesis.Chapter Two introduces the previous theoretical perspectives related to the present study, and providesa review of the previous studies in the field of evaluation and English reading in junior high school.Chapter Three focuses on the research methodology applied in this study, including research questions,materials analysis, subjects, instruments, and experimental procedures for collecting and analyzing data.Chapter Four concerns the results and discussions. This chapter makes a careful analysis about thestatistical and quantitative data of this study, and then gives a detailed discussion based on the results.Chapter Five summarizes the whole thesis, it presents the major findings, contributions andimplications of the present research, limitations of this research, as well as some recommendations for thefuture research.
