Conclusion


This paper attempts to do a research on the correlation between success andfailure attributions and the choice of English reading strategies for non-Englishmajors in Xinjiang University. 239 second-year sophomores took part in theinvestigation. It can not be denied that there are some limitations of the study becauseof some objective or subjective reasons.
Firstly, the sample of the subject is not large enough to illustrate perfectly for allthe research questions, so the generalization of the present study is limited. Thenumber of the subjects is only 239, (129 successful English learners and 112unsuccessful English learners), although the number is appropriate to conduct factor analysis, it might have restricted more scientific findings for the research questions;therefore, the researcher would like to suggest that in future investigations, the totalnumber of the subjects for both successful and unsuccessful English learners shouldbe enlarged respectively, and then the results of factor analysis will demonstrateresearch questions more comprehensively.
Secondly, the participants are just from Xinjiang University, so the representativeof the present study is limited. Xinjiang is a remote area, the development level ofEnglish teaching is lower than many advanced provinces in our country, English levelof most students in Xinjiang university is not very high, so the sample of the study isnot representative enough, the findings can not represent all college students’ actualsituation in Xinjiang, let alone other college students’ real situation of other provinces,so further research is needed to extend the sampling of subjects to other universities inorder to conduct an investigation of learners with different levels.
Thirdly, as this study mainly used students’ self-report and the score of their CET4 as a standard to judge whether they are successful English learners or not, and alsothe questionnaires were used in this research; therefore, because of some subjectivereasons of participants, there might be some inaccurate or even invalid data due tountruthful or careless responses.
