the translation is the most important factor in translating process. “Through the translation process, the translator should not be in the light of Equivalence Theory which emphasizes the original text and function. Instead, he or she should focus on one or several communicational functions which are expected to achieve in the target language and culture. [6] Therefore, it is not necessary to mechanically imitate the original. On the contrary, the translator should be based on the intended purpose to adopt various methods of translation”, said Vermeer. [6] What Skopos Theory emphasizes is the expected function and the best chosen means with the provided information.

3.  Overview of The Catcher in the Rye麦田里的守望者概述

3.1 Brief Introduction to The Catcher in the Rye麦田里的守望者的简述

Holton Calder, hero of the story, who is a sixteen-year old middle school student, was born in a wealthy middle class family in New York.  The whole novel is written in recollection.  Holton Calder was tired of all the schools.  He lost interest in learning, was in a disordered condition from day to day and was driven out four continual times from the school. He dared not come back home.  Finally he had to walk aimlessly and alone in New York for two days and nights. After visiting the night club, he lived in a small hotel. Meanwhile, he was miserable all the time. He could not stand the adults who pretended to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that one did not actually have. He attempted to escape from the unreal world. He wanted to live simply. This conflicting spirit of contradictions eventually drove him to a complete mental breakdown, lying in a mental hospital. This novel aims at analyzing the psychological journey of protagonist Holton, that is, from detesting hypocrisy and pursuing trueness to final succumbing to the social reality.  It reveals the solitude and painful involving in the inward world of American young generation after World War II. [7]

3.2 Influence of The Catcher in the Rye 麦田里的守望者的影响
From 1951 to present, The Catcher in the Rye has comforted the soul of many anxious young people in the world. After published, a new wave came to the American literary creation, enriching the 1950s American thought and emotion. [7] It can be truly named ultra-definition in literature during the period of “age of J. D. Salinger”. [7] The novel reflects the contradictory confusion of philosophy and morality in American youth after World War II, representing the thought and situation in some parts of people. [7]
High school and college loved reading The Catcher in the Rye when it came out. Parents and teachers also regarded the novel as “level I” and used it as a key to understand the modern teenagers. [3] American literary critic Cranvlle Hicks said: “I am convinced that millions of American youths feel J. D. Salinger to be more intimate than any other writer”. [8] In the 1970s, several American high school teachers were forced to resign because of teaching The Catcher in the Rye in class. Some university libraries also listed the book as a banned book. [8] However, as time went by, the literary value and socio-cultural status in this book gradually revealed.
Now,   the book has been widely recognized.
