摘要:Firstly taking Interpretive Theory as the theoretical framework and on the basisof Chinese characteristic sentences interpreting research, this thesis has made thecomprehensive and in-depth analysis on Chinese characteristic sentences interpretingstrategies from a Interpretive Theory perspective.
n 1980sthat Interpretive Theory has developed greatly, so we can draw a conclusion which isa significant development period for the theory.In1994,Prof.Lidere had published “La Traduction aujourd’ hui-le modeleinterpretative. Pairs:Hachette”, and many people believe that Interpretive Theory hasbeen matured and improved.

2.2 The Purpose of Interpretive Theory
Interpretive Theory stresses that a translation work without any interpretation isnot a successful one, and sense is the invariable core part for the interpreter. Oralspeech is a dynamic and transient process. Maybe an interpreter cannot remember theexact words or phrases that a speaker use in the speech, but he must seize the coremeaning and have the ability to express it in the target language. When the soundmaterials disappear, only the deverbalized thoughts and plots remain in theinterpreter’s mind. The short-time memory cannot help us to memory the exact wordsand phrases the speaker uses, so a wise interpreter will seize the accurate meaning andthe emotion that the speaker wants to express. He can master the balance between the speaker and audience, and also keep the sense equivalence. Sense equivalence inInterpretive Theory means to be faithfulness. That is to say we should be faithful tothe original author or speaker. Interpretive Theory stresses that sense is the target andessence of translation. Many traditional translation theories only focus on thelanguage and the translation process is a matter of transformation on the level oflinguistic code .But Interpretive Theory stresses that the process of translation is anactivity rather than a result, which is also regarded as a significant feature ofcommunication .The language, no matter the source language or the target language,ismerely regared as carrier of the information and the emotion.What a good interpreteror translator need to do is to seize the meaning they want to express.In order to get abetter understanding of the source language,the creator of Interpretive Theory,DanicaSeleskovitch does a very iconic simile,that is,she compared translators or interpretersto a painter rather than a photographer.The further explain of her expression is that apainter can draw a picture when he see a landscape.When he starts his work,he fulfillsit according to what he had in his mind. So the painter can create a picture accordingto what he receives in his mind.
