1.1 Definition of Chinese Characteristic Sentences
In our daily life, we can always meet many sentences involving Chinesecharacteristics words or phrases. All of us know these words and phrases aresignificant, because most of them carry on and reflect Chinese culture. But few of uscan give an exact definition of Chinese characteristic sentences. Chinese characteristicsentences are the ones that carry on the unique Chinese culture, and the ones in whichwe can find some unique Chinese cultural words or phrases. “形象工程” is a negative word in English, which refers some projects that areluxurious but not functional ,and usually waste many money. But Newsweek andTimes once interpret it as “prestige projects”, which is a wrong translation .InOALD ,the word “prestige” means “something that brings respect and admiration;important 令人敬仰的;受尊重的;重要的”and another meaning is that “something isadmired and respected because it looks important and expensive 名贵的,贵重的,讲究派头的” ,so we can regard it as the synonym of “luxury”.
