r since. This new m ethod  of study pays attention to the new s discourse and its social func tion in order to expose the  ideology embedded in news language. A great number of scholars have ever started to regard critical analyses of news discourse as a crucia l research way to find the relationships am ong language, power and ideology in news report.  Being one of the founders of critical li nguistic (CL), Fowler, together with his co-workers, developed critical linguistics in the 1970s,  and made the framework of CDA clear, and implemented his critical disc ourse analysis of ne ws discourse in his book:  Language  in  the  News:  Discourse  and  Ideology  in 1991. In the sam e  year, Fowler  and Bell together com pleted  the  first general book on m edia  language. According  to Fowler,  CL  is somewhat  like sociolinguistics,  as wh at  he  says  in  his book“there  are strong and pervasive connecti ons  between linguis tic  structure and social structure”(Fowler 185). As to Fowler , the use  of language is not biased, and ideological meaning is embedded in language. He considers CDA as an exercise of instrumental linguistics, also uses Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) to carry out his critical analysis of news discourse.

CHAPTER V RESULTS AND DISCUSSION  

This chapter is going to present the result of research questions one by one and discuss them. The linguistic param eters have been listed based on the Fairclough’ s three-dimension  framework  and Halliday ’s  systemic  functional  grammar,  namely, transitivity  and voice, lexical clas sification,  mood and modality ,  reporting verbs, coherence and social factors.  

5.1 In the Description Stage 

It is the first stage to be studied in th is paper.
