6.1 Introduction 

As we all know, in the long-term struggle for survival, man has obtained various tools to choose  from  and  depend  on  as  their  life  means.  Language  is  the  most  indispensable  one  to distinguish man form animals. However, language is not a thing which leads an independent and  unchanging  life  once  it  has  been  made.  It  requires  constant  adaptations  to  different purposes and circumstances of use (Verschueren, 1987:18). During the dynamic processes of adaptation,  language  users  are  actually  obligatorily  making  choices  when  they  enter  the process.  Thus,  appropriate  choices,  including  linguistic  and  non-linguistic  strategies  are constantly  made  from  a  variable  range  of  possibilities  so  as  to  realize  the  communicative goals.
